Course Requirements: The student is not required to know how to read music or to have played guitar prior to this class. Classical guitars provided by the college will be used as the class instrument. We will be using the Carcassi Classical Guitar Method book as the main textbook. Other repertoire will be used according to the individual and class progress.
1. Student will work on the following: The Natural Scale, The 22 studies for right and left-hand development, A research paper on a person who has been influential on the Classical Guitar is to be turned in at the end of the semester.
2. End of the semester concert will be given by all that would like to participate. This is not a requirement, but is arranged to give family and friends a chance to hear the students and to gain experience playing in front of an audience. Students will be required to participate in one of the recitals assigned by the staff during the semester. This will be done as a group.
Practice Requirements: It will be essential that the student practice on the assigned material enough to stay up with the class. At the outset this is very important since the material will be assigned to develop technique that will be applied in the repertoire.
Class Attendance: It is very important to be in class as we will be working as a group. Three sick days will be allowed during the semester. Any excess time taken will affect your grade by one grade increments. Being on time is necessary so that class will not be disrupted. Please turn off cell phones.
