Chapter Meetings


The Student Affiliates have regularly scheduled meetings during the 9-month academic year, usually bi-weekly, with speakers or other presentations once a month. Meetings are typically around noon time when snacks &/or meals are provided.

Faculty Advisor


The faculty advisor for the Student Affiliates is currently Dr. Mike Robinson and Dr. Kyle Beran is co-advisor. The entire chemistry faculty can usually be found at the meetings and assist students with the chapter's activities.
University Activities

Since there ain't no free ride, one of the ongoing fun functions is fund raising for food and trips. A variety of fund raising projects help to fill the treasury coffers.

About the American Chemical Society


The American Chemical Society was founded in 1876 and is a not-for-profit organization. It is the world's largest scientific society and has a membership of over 150,000 chemists and chemical engineers. The American Chemical Society was chartered by a 1937 Act of the U.S. Congress. The Society is recognized as a world leader in fostering scientific education and research, and promoting public understanding of science.

The National Organization


Located in Washington, D.C., the American Chemical Society has several divisions. The primary divisions are the Chemical Abstracts Service, the Education division, the Membership division and the Publications division.

ACS Technical Divisions


The American Chemical Society currently has 35 Technical Divisions. The Technical Divisions are independent special interest groups which support division members. The Technical Divisions are diverse, covering specialty areas such as chemical education, fuel chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, etc. ACS members may belong to several Technical Divisions. Many Technical Divisions encourage student membership.

ACS Geographical Regions


The American Chemical Society has divided the United States into nine geographical regions. The geographical regions support Regional Meetings which serve as forums for the presentation of technical papers and student posters.

ACS Local Sections


The American Chemical Society has 188 Local Sections. The local sections support local members with regularly scheduled meetings. The Speakers Program of the ACS provides local sections with speakers on various topics. Students from local SAACS chapters are invited to attend meetings.

ACS Student Affiliates Program


The American Chemical Society has developed the Student Affiliates Program to promote undergraduate chemical education at colleges and universities.
