The Multidisciplinary Studies degree is offered through the College of Arts and Sciences in collaboration with the School of Education. This degree is designed to better prepare students for the demands of teaching in the classrooms of the 21st century. To that end, the program reflects the ideals set forth during the Renaissance. Students will not only engage in the fields of Humanities, but also in the fields of Science, Mathematics, and the Social Sciences as they progress towards a Bachelors degree in Multidisciplinary Studies.
Drawing on a rich tradition of academic interdisciplinary study, this degree mimics the academic experiences of the great thinkers of civilization. Students undertaking this program of study will find themselves engaged in the pursuit of the best of all of the traditional fields of academic studies.
This degree is specifically designed with the early childhood through 4th grade and 4th through 8th grade teacher in mind. To that end, only those student seeking certification in these programs will be allowed. There is no nonteaching track for this degree.
Providing a program of study with flexible course scheduling, the Multidisciplinary Studies program allows the student to maximize semester hour credits towards their degree by not limiting semester course offerings to any one academic area. Students will be required to complete any specific academic prerequisites in some areas before taking junior/senior courses.
This sample schedule is a suggested plan for students to follow in completing the BA in Multidisciplinary Studies. Due to schedule changes and staff assignments, students may not be able to follow the plan exactly. Students should consult with their advisors to plan classes before registering each term.
